Approximately 3.5 million people living in the United States have autism. We know that most people with autism can benefit from a variety of technologies which promote inclusion and autonomy.
How can the TEC Lab help you? People on the Autism Spectrum face many challenges often on a daily basis. These challenges can be frustrating, unsafe, or both. For example, a person may wander into unsafe situations or have trouble communicating their wants and needs. Now imagine that they can do all of these things with ease - with the help of assistive technology. We understand that the apparently endless array of technologies on the market can be very intimidating. The good news is that you don’t need to search for answers on your own - we’ll help you through every step of the process. At the TEC Lab we have the equipment, tools, and materials to help you find or make any device that might aid you in your struggles. If more than one solution is available, we will bring forward a number of options to consider. In addition, we provide our customers with a list of pros/cons for each option, approximate pricing, and purchasing options. No matter where a person may fall on the Autism Spectrum we are willing to help address ANY CHALLENGE they may face in a discreet and professional manner.
WHAT DO THESE SERVICES COST?
Funding provided in whole or in part by The Autism Program of Illinois and the Illinois Department of Human Services.
The TAP grant allows us to fund first level solutions to people on the autism spectrum. However, more complex consultations will incur fees that are not covered by the grant.
The Autism Program (TAP) of Illinois was established in 2003 to increase community awareness of autism and to increase access to professionals and resources. TAP has awarded a grant to the TEC Lab that allows us to provide assistive technology services specifically to people with autism and their supporters.
