Build and Inspire!
In these hands-on events, participants are guided through the process of building a variety of assistive technologies. Because the materials we use are relatively common and readily available, attendees are able to make products similar to commercially available ones at a fraction of the cost. In addition, the structure of these events encourages attendees to identify other ways that the materials can be used to solve challenges faced by the people they support.
All materials needed for these sessions are provided to the attendees in “kits”. Attendees take all of the items they build so that they can be used with people they support at home or at work.
The Participation Station!
In these interactive sessions, attendees are exposed to a variety of commercially available technologies that address challenges commonly faced by people with disabilities. In addition to providing general information about the product, we also provide purchasing recommendations, pricing estimates, and a list of pros/cons. For select technologies, attendees will be invited to experience them first hand during the session. We do not benefit financially from acquainting attendees with the products - we are simply sharing our real experiences and product reviews.
Informatory!
In these more traditional lecture based sessions, we can address a number of technology related topics - from providing a tried and true method for the adoption of technology to an in-depth look at specific technologies (remote supports, smart homes, wandering/elopement solutions, etc.). While these sessions are more traditional, this does not mean that they are boring. Opportunities for audience participation and discussion are incorporated into the session in order to create meaning for the entire group.
